What is Device Manager?

The Definition of Device Manager
The Device Manager is designed to be a useful diagnostic tool comes as an extension of the Microsoft Management Console in Microsoft Windows operating systems. It provides users central and organized view of all the Microsoft Windows recognized hardware installed in a computer. With Device Manager, you can view the running information of the device drivers installed on your computer, update drivers for your devices, check to see if hardware is working properly, and modify hardware settings.

Device Manager Provides these help for you:

• Enable or disable devices
• Tell Windows to ignore malfunctioning devices
• viewing hardware properties
• Finding device names and other information regarding your hardware

How to Access the Device Manager?
Windows 95/98/Me
1. Click Start, then go to Settings -> Control Panel
2. Select System applet, then go to Device Manager Tab
Windows 2000 and Windows XP
1. Right-click on My Computer then go to Properties
2. Go to the Hardware
3. Select the Device Manager
Windows Vista and Windows 7
1. Click Start -> in the “Start Search” box
2. Type “Dev” (without pressing enter); wait for a list to show up
3. Select the Device Manager
