When you delete files from Windows Explorer, Windows will send the files to the Recycle Bin by default so that you can recover a file you might have deleted accidentally. If you don’t want to automatically send files to the Recycle Bin, you can disable this functionality by performing the following steps:
Due to the fact that the method needs you to do some changes in your registry and it needs some advanced computer tech, we recommend the computer novice to try some other ways.
It is of vital importance to firstly create a full backup of your registry before you want to set up your changes. This step will help you avoid any mistakes during the process of changing.
1. Click Start and then go to Run. Enter regedit into the pop-up to modify your registry.
2. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, until you find the Software folder.
3. Expand the Software folder, until you find the Microsoft folder.
4. Expand Microsoft to get to Windows. Once you’ve found Windows folder, expand the folder.
5. This will take you to CurrentVersion. Expand CurrentVersion and look for Explorer.
6. Once you’ve expanded Explorer, see BitBucket, go to BitBucket.
7. Look at the right hand side of the box. You will find NukeOnDelete. If this value is not there, proceed to the steps below. If the value is already present, go to Step 8.
- Right click on the white part of the right hand side. Select New.
- Select DWORD. Rename the DWORD value to NukeOnDelete. You may also choose to right click on the new DWORD value that comes up and select Rename.
8. Double click on NukeOnDelete. A new box will pop up.
9. Enter 0 in Value Data if you want to use the Recycle Bin. Enter 1 if you would like to permanently delete all files.
10. Exit the registry and reboot.
There is an alternate method if you do not want to modify your registry settings.
1. Right click on the Recycle Bin on your Desktop.
2. Now click on Properties.
3. To enable, check the Display delete confirmation dialog box. To disable, uncheck the Display delete confirmation dialog box.
4. Click Apply and press OK.
